What Can You Do To Help?
- Listen to the person.

- Talk openly about it.

- Remain calm and proceed slowly.

- Be positive

- Tell the person to get help and talk to an adult about his/her    problems.

- Don't promise the person to keep it for yourself. Young
people often talk with their friends about their feelings and
many suicides or other crimes can be prevented if they talk
   to an adult about it.

What Is Wrong To Do!

- Act shocked. You will give the person the feeling that there
is no hope and it will make it even worse.

- Encourage guilt

- Panic

- Promise total confidentiality

- Minimize the problem

- Give up hope

- Not to tell an adult

Where To Get Help

If you feel sad or even depressed, the most important thing to do is to talk about it. That can be to a friend, parents or a teacher. If you don't feel comfortable talking to a person you know, there are several help hotlines you can call.

National Youth Crisis Hotline
1-800-488-4663

TEEN LINK Crises Clinic
1-888-431-8336
206-461-4922 (Seattle Areas)

Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program
1-800-784-2433

And never forget:

Suicide victims are not trying to end their life, they're trying to end the pain.
