- - Listen to the person.
- - Talk openly about it.
- - Remain calm and proceed slowly.
- - Be positive
- - Tell the person to get help and talk to an adult about his/her problems.

Don't
promise the person to keep it for yourself. Young people often talk with their friends about their feelings and many suicides or other crimes can be prevented if they talk to an adult about it.

is no hope and it will make it even worse.
- - Encourage guilt
- - Panic
- - Promise total confidentiality
- - Minimize the problem
- - Give up hope
- - Not to tell an adult
