What type of simple exercises can I do to try and stay fit?

For young women who are ordinarily inactive, try the following activities for exercise:

  • Taking the Stairs (no elevators or escalators)
  • Stretching while Standing in Line (at the grocery store, at the movies, or wherever you have to stand in line)
  • Walking Whenever You Can (while riding your bicycle and roller-blading are healthy activities, try to walk more often)
  • Hiding the TV Remote Control (yes, you WILL have to walk to the TV to change the channel)
  • Making Extra Trips around the House, Yard, or Block

Some females believe the misconception that if they exercise, they'll get humongous muscles. The type of exercise you do determines how much your muscles will become defined. Also, remember that since our bodies are different from each other, some people's muscles will become more defined than others. It's OK to have muscles! As with all activities, moderation is the key. If one tries to lift too much weight or tries too stretch too far when she first begins exercising, she can seriously injure herself. Therefore, exercise and stretch very lightly when first beginning to work out. Also, it is a good idea to try different types of exercise. If one only does one type of exercise, she'll strengthen one part or section of her body but the rest of her body will still be weak.
