Nutrition - What are YOU eating?

Sure, we ALL have been nagged at to "eat your fruits and vegetables", to "drink your milk", and to "stay away from candy," but let's face it; it can be very difficult to eat healthily and to stay away from sweets (ESPECIALLY during our menstrual cycles!). However, it is possible! Part of eating healthily is getting the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. Some foods that contain vitamins and/or minerals include:

  1. Liver (yes, most people don't like liver, but it is a good source of Vitamin A)
  2. Eggs
  3. Fortified milk
  4. Orange and dark green vegetables (carrots, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, melons, sweet potatoes, green peppers)
  5. Fruits
  6. Vegetable oils
  7. Whole grain foods
  8. Peas
  9. Potatoes
  10. Pork
  11. Oysters
  12. Tuna
  13. Beans
  14. Nuts
  15. Nutritional yeast
  16. Beef
  17. Table salt
  18. Seafood
  19. Poultry (chicken)
  20. Garlic (yeah, it makes your breath smell bad, so brush your teeth after eating some)

While eating healthily is a good thing, too much of a good thing can be bad for you. For example, if you consume too much potassium, you could be subject to muscle paralysis and an abnormal heart beat. In other words, try to balance your meals as much as possible to prevent sickness from consuming one food more than others.

Many people like drinking caffeinated drinks (like soda and coffee), but caffeine interferes with calcium absorption. If you exercise and drink soda to cool down, you are slowly (but surely) counteracting the bone-fortifying effect of the exercise you just did. Instead, drink water or a sports drink. Keep in mind that some sports drinks are better than others - you'll have to try different drinks to see which ones work better for you. Also, don't buy drinks that claim to give you stamina, instant energy, or a stronger body. These drinks usually have harmful chemicals that (over time) can do serious damage to your body.
