Teen Pregnancy

spacerspacer

When I was in 7th grade I wanted to have a baby. I didn't want a baby to make a boy like me or to have sex. It was more because I wanted someone who was created by me, someone I could call my own. I have always had a love for babies because it felt like in someway I connected with them. Just the way they feel, how they hug you, love you, how they gaze into your eyes and laugh. I had a sister but she was already 7 years old so it wasn't the same effect. However, during this time no one ever expressed to me why I shouldn't have a baby. All I ever heard was " Oh please!" "You can't be serious!", "You are just too young!", I chose to write about teen pregnancy because, I feel (as a teenager) that no one ever stops to teach us that raising a child is not an easy thing to do. Also, I chose this topic because I feel that I want to help lead other teenagers in the right direction and I also want to take a day in the shoes of real teenage parents. In reality, you never know how difficult something is until you have come up close and personal with the situation.

To accomplish this I reached out to some teen parents from all over the world through email to ask them a couple of questions. Here are some of the examples of the questions and answers:

Q: Would you like to introduce yourself?

A: My name is Tanya and I'm 16, I live in Michigan
B: I want to remain anonymous
C: Cheryl and I were 15 when I got prego and 16 when I had my son. I
am now 19 and he is 3. I love my son to death but it is hard raising him
    going to college and working.

D: ~Alana (19) Antonio (21) & Jayden (2) from Calgary, Alberta,
    Canada

Q: What was the first thought that crossed your mind when you found out
     that you were pregnant?

A: No comment
B: Unsure of what to do or what was going to happen, I knew my Mom
    would be devastated.

C: How am I going to do this?
D: My first thought was that the doctor was wrong. I didn't believe it for a
second. I had been on Depo for 7 months when I got pregnant, so
honestly, I didn't freak out because I didn't believe it was possible.

(Depo is an injection that is given to prevent pregnancy. It is another form of birth control. See contraceptives.)
