The Debate
What Is Pro-Choice?
Pro-choice is a movement whose main purpose is to give women the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not. This group of people essentially believe that at the moment of conception, the embryo is not a human being and therefore the universal declaration of human rights does not apply to it. The pro-choice movement feels that it is up to the woman to decide what she will do in her state of pregnancy and that it should be her decision and her decision alone. Their mission is to "ensure that women have the right to seek and obtain medically safe, legal abortions under dignified conditions and a reasonable cost."
What Is Pro-Life?
The pro-life association firmly believes that at the moment of conception, the embryo is a human being. Their overall mission is to gain an ammendment to the U.S. Constitution and to Canada's Charter of Rights that "will give equal protection under the law, to all living humans from the time their biologic life begins at conception until natural death."
The pro-life movement's goal is really to show that the woman and her child are two separate individuals, each with their own, separate rights.
My Perspective
As I did my research for this page, I began to really think of what my views are on this very controversial topic. I realized that I was pro-life.
I came to this conclusion after I recognized that the pro-choice movement is really about a woman's rights and feminism, whereas the pro-life movement was mainly about saving the life of a child and helping the mother to handle and deal with her decision. Another factor that helped to influence my assessment was my faith. I believe that god creates and that no person has the right to destroy what he has created. I am really comfortable with my decision and feel that it is the true and just choice for me. Remember what's right for me may not be right for you. You must always be sure and comfortable with your final decision.
