| Society wants to generalize women as being weaker and not as good as men. Through the media and different forms of exploitation, women are made to believe that in order to please men, they must portray themselves as sexy and be submissive to the dominant male. Women are taught from an early age that they should be beautiful but ignorant. As they grow, they have a desire to be independent, yet they are still held back by the need to be loved by man. Women are dehumanized, defined, and portrayed as both a non-individual and as non-threatening. Society sees women as nothing more than two-dimensional objects free from any complex thoughts. The ultimate exploitation comes when females do not know whom they are and cannot accept themselves until they fulfill men's expectations. Because we are surrounded by negative influence in media our entire lives, it is important to be aware that we can all be affected by these images. If women are aware that images are not real and do not expect themselves to fit the "perfect" image, then we can all lead healthier lives, not trying to be like the people we see on television. |
